Room Renovation

So I've been wanting to redo my room for quite a while and now, given the opportunity, I'm jumping on it! Here is the fabric that got things rolling...

Pottery Barn must have known I was coming when they mixed all the colors I was working with into this pattern. The golds, smokey blues, greens (always a fav), a little red with smudges of musky pinks... couldn't have mixed it better myself.

So a little background... the room was already painted a light smokey blue at this point and I was needing to incorporate the furniture that was already in the room (white wicker bed side tables, a shelf stand, a white and gold bed frame, and a green lamp shade which I refused to toss because I still think it's darling).

Here's a little something I put together today to help keep my organized and incorporate my golds...

I realize it doesn't look like much but it's a huge improvement from the thin and boring hobby lobby wood panels on the outside of this dry erase board. I think this large gold frame better suits my taste and new room!

To do:
1. Pry apart/ off the old wood paneling.
2. Measure the inside of the frame you're wanting to use.
3. Transfer those measurements to the back side of the dry erase board.
4. get to sawing (yes, I literally sawed the thing in half. I'm sure there are better and easier ways but I was too impatient to wait. I wanted this thing done now!).
5. Clean from of dry erase board and position into the frame.
6. Glue that sucker into place and allow glue to dry.
7. Hang your new work of art!

Here it is with the rest of my desk/ study area (which is still a work in progress because those selves are just not working for me right now)...

Put on your party hat!

A few days ago I helped a good friend of mine prep for her birthday party. She wanted to make cupcakes for dessert and cupcake balls for party favors! What a fun idea! I don't think I've given out party favors at one of my birthday parties for years; probably since they came in a princess plastic bag filled with dollar store goodies! I think this is something I need to implement back into my parties. Anywho, back to the baking...

After a glass, or two, of champagne I thought it would be super cute to try something other than balls on the top of the pops. I guess a little champagne gets my thoughts bubbling! {Insert courtesy laugh here} Corny, I know, but there may be some truth to it. So... we tried party hats! We thought that would be simple enough. Here's our attempt...

The pink rimmed ones were chocolate and the white were vanilla! We used a sicklette on top for a little extra flair!

Ps. Please note the super cute candy bar in the back ground my friend has set up in her kitchen! This is just another idea that I will be incorporating into my life! I can't help but be inspired by her!

Here was the final presentation...

They fit perfectly into the napkin rings at dinner! Let the celebration begin!

Here's to a new year

Another year has come and gone and I am now one year closer to 30, according to my driver's license at least. I don't really feel like I should be this close to such an age milestone, but then again I don't think I'd want to go back a year or two. At one of my birthday dinners this year an ever so thoughtful friend brought some flowers to decorate our table for the evening! Such a good idea! It just made the whole ambiance of the celebration have so much more of a personal touch that I just loved it! I think I'm going to try and start doing this for special occasion dinners!

Anywho, here's a picture of my flowers... Not the best photo given that I was driving to Austin and I refused to leave these beautiful flowers behind to die. And they were my birthday flowers, so that had to celebrate the rest of my birthday with me, right?!

Sugar filled mini

I know it's been a while since I last posted... HUGE apologies from me. I've thrown myself into work and when I haven't been there I've pretty much been out of town. I'm trying to take advantage of this whole "summer off" thing!

Here's something I little threw together for a co-workers baby shower about a month ago. I had originally planned to do cake balls with bright pink sugar crystals and attach a little paper cutout on the pop stick to make them look like shiny pink rattles, but I was having one of those days where nothing was working the way it should. SO.... Here's what I ended up with...

You can see that I ended up with a few pink sugar-coated cake balls but I didn't have enough. Frustration had set in but I wasn't going to let it get the best of me. I search for anything else pink and found pink strawberry flavored marshmallows and and sour skittles (which are actually red but I didn't have a lot to work with at this point). So, using the rest of the melted white chocolate, I dipped the marshmallow tops into the chocolate, made a little swirl on top with a spoon, and adorned the top with a skittle.

I'll post more pictures of the individually decorated marshmallows and cake balls when I can find the cord that connects my camera to my computer!
