Memorial Day Table

Memorial Day is just around the corner! Hope your weekend involves something fun, or relaxing, or both! Enjoy your time off! And don't forget to remember and thank those that help serve and protect our country!

I'm trying to figure out how I could incorporate some of these ideas into my Memorial Day weekend celebration! I'm loving the stripes in these tables settings!

American flag! Classic!

Table cloths...

no clue who this is by... been on my computer for a while now.

Tin can covers & napkin rings...

Setting decoration or place card...

Berrylicious

Berry season couldn't come at a more perfect time... considering it's also time to fit into those polka dot bikinis! Here are some super yummie desserts that can satisfy your sweet tooth while not packing on tons of extra calories!

A slice of angel food cake topped with lite whipped cream and fresh cut berries (I used strawberries and blueberries)! Light and heavenly for a little something sweet!

To knock the calories down even more, cut out the angel food cake and add swirl of honey and a dash of cinnamon sugar on top of the lite whipped cream! I love this dessert! It's really great for those who are training for things like triathlons or marathons because you get your sweet fix without undoing your hard work! Some extra added bonuses, berries are packed with nutrients that help your face have that healthy glow and they give you a little extra boost of energy all while slimming down or toning up your waist line! Who wouldn't want that?!

Worth a thousand staples

Here's a little something that I put together for GK's place!

The project started with a huge blank wall, many picture frames in various sizes and colors, and the hope to make as few holes in the wall as possible. Here's how the work in progress turned out...

Materials:
- 2 spools of ribbon
- stapler
- box of staples
- 1 black mat spray paint
- 4 nails and hooks

Helpful hint:
-Don't hold the spray paint can too close to the frame or you will get bubbles of paint that dry in a funky bubble formation.

After choosing the frames that would be used in the collage, it's most helpful to arrange them on the floor first to get the look you desire. Measure out the ribbon to the length you need. I doubled mine over and tied a knot in the top to add a little something extra to the top; which also nicely covered up the hook a nail holding each picture set. Next, flip over the picture frames, and begin stapling the ribbon where it hits the top of each picture frame (this can get a little tricky at times... needless to say, I went through a lot, I mean A LOT, of staples to make sure it was secure and hung evenly when the back of the some frames had a lot of stuff going on that worked against my little stapler). Then start hanging and measuring out your frames (I used GK a lot at this point to help make sure the picture sets were spaced evenly)!

Gardenia

On our road trip through the south last summer, GK caught wind of the gardenia flower. Seeing as gardenias are in full bloom right now, I thought I'd cut a few and help GK's place smell amazing for the next few days! While it only takes one of these to fill the room with its aroma, I cut a few more to fill out the vase!

These little flowers were a little top heavy and did not want to stay in the vase. An easy fix, that a florist taught me recently, is to gather your flowers in a bouquet fashion and put a little rubber band, as high up as you can, around the base of the flowers. You can see in the picture how the stems of the flowers are grouped together. To fix this look keep your stems a little longer than I did (I accidentally cut mine too short).

ps. Mother's Day

Looking through my photos, I just realized that I completely forgot to post my Mother's day DIY card!

Making a card adds a very personal touch, when you have a little bit of time, to gift giving. I usually start by deciding on a background color, gathering all of my other colors, cutting the background piece to the shape and size desired, and then work begins on the snazzy cover.

I used pink, orange, navy, and some silver glitter glue to to tie together the random color schemes that would be placed together Sunday morning!

ps. Hobby Lobby usually has a great selection of materials and, if you can hold out so to stock up, they also have discounts on their paper goods and ribbons pretty regularly. So if you have a fun event coming up and you're planning on implementing a lot of DIY elements, it might be worth it to check out their weekly sale ad and coupon on their website.

jumping for joy!

Yay!!!!I'm back! The semester, and finals, and projects, and clinicals (oh my!) are finally finished... summer here I come!

Kate's Kitchen

I LOVE this kitchen! The classically whimsy details, like the stripped bench and the checkered floor tiles, and the pops of kelly green get me every time! Not to mention that this is Kate Spade's kitchen!

No clue where I got this image... It's been on my computer for a while now!

I so wish I was studying in this kitchen today; with a cute little cup and saucer, maybe the gold ticker tape confetti ones by Kate Spade...

Or these, they're pretty cute too...

But let's be honest... the only studying I'd be doing would be focused on the creativity bounding from the walls, and every other inch of this home... not RN focused at all!

My destiny

If the saying "you are what you eat" holds true, then this very well may be what I may look like in the future! With GK next to me, off course! He's so hot!

Clipboard... check

Today marks the end of a wonderful semester at Texas Children's Hospital! My instructor who was continuously encouraging and motivational influenced all aspects of this little thank you card! She loves to use little check boxes with her paperwork that she carries around on her cute little clip board!

To make...

I used pink, navy, and silver construction paper, notebook paper, a whole punch, stick glue, and some paint pens!

1. Cut out the upper left corner of several sheets of notebook paper and whole punch 2 extra wholes to make them look like mini sheets of paper.
2. Staple sheets of notebook paper to the navy background which makes for the back of the clipboard.
2. To make it an official clip board, cut out and whole punch the silver paper and glue it over the stables.
3. Glue the pink paper to the back of the navy paper, which will also hid the back side of the staples.
4. Finally, decorate and have as many people as desired sign each sheet of the notebook paper!
